Fall 2025 WLC Connects LectureThe WLC Connects Speaker Series is an annual event in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. With support from ISU lectures and other campus units, the WLC Research Committee invites an external speaker whose work connects to two or more WLC faculty members’ research. Two WLC faculty members give brief introductions prior to the visiting scholar’s talk that links the themes and ideas being presented to their own work. The speaker series shows out students and campus community how WLC faculty’s interdisciplinary interests connect on various levels and across different fields.

Iowa State University Library Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) and University Museums staff will examine how artists have used archives as a resource for Artists and Archives: Creating Contemporary Art from History, a collaborative discussion, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., November 6, 2025, in Room 198 Park Library.
Participants include Adrienne Gennett, curator University Museums; Amy Bishop, rare book and manuscript archivist and Jaycie Vos, university archivist, Special Collections and University Archives; Raluca Iancu, associate professor, arts and visual culture, College of Design.
Gain insight into Hive Mind sculpture artist Beth Lipman's recent experience utilizing SCUA objects for the glass elements that trace the past, present, and future of Iowa State University. Additional discussion will focus on the use of SCUA materials as inspiration in Iancu’s ARTIS355x Letterpress Book Arts course.
A Q&A session will follow the discussion. Items from the collections used as inspiration for artistic works will be on display during the evening.
