    Speaker: Joseph Ramstad
Part of the ISU Research Showcase series.

A parent has a significant impact on their children in many ways, including the careers they choose to pursue. Joe Ramstad's research explores the role parents perceive themselves having in their children's lives, and to call attention to additional resources or supports that can help parents in most effectively guiding their children in this important life decision. Whether you are currently a parent, will become a parent, or can recall the influence of your family on your career, this presentation has implications for everyone.

Joe Ramstad is a PhD candidate in the Agricultural Education and Studies Department, with a focus in agricultural education teacher preparation. He taught high school agricultural education for 5 years in Minnesota, and found a great enthusiasm for helping support future teachers and first year teachers. K-12 agricultural educators must find ways to balance several areas of their program, and given today's challenges with teacher attrition, this emerging topic is of importance. Joe's primary research focuses on how we can best equip these educators and their programs with tools and resources so they can remain strong within the profession and their communities. As a first-generation college student himself, he has found great enthusiasm in uncovering this important area of research and is excited to continue share research-supported resources and with future teachers, so they are prepared to have robust, industry-validated experiences for K-12 students and stakeholders. He is also interested in research focusing on student experiential learning and career preparation. Outside of school, Joe enjoys spending time outside, BBQing, kayaking, and traveling.

This lecture recording can be found on the Available Recordings page approximately two business days after the event and will remain accessible for three weeks.
Co-Sponsors: Agricultural Education and Studies Department, Committee on Lectures (funded by Student Government)
