The Faculty Senate represents the general faculty of Iowa State University and participates in shared governance of the University with the administration. The senate has legislative responsibility for general academic and educational policy, serving to facilitate communication among faculty, students, and administration. It also cooperates with the administration in conflict resolution, and advises the administration on budgetary and other policy matters. Meetings are open to the public.

The College of Design Graduation Convocation is a separate event from the official Iowa State University commencement ceremonies. The Spring 2026 event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Stephens Auditorium, part of the Iowa State Center in Ames.
Convocation includes only students from the College of Design and allows students and their guests a more individualized celebration of their achievement. The spring event will include greetings from Luis Rico-Gutierrez, dean and Steven King and Susan Boren Endowed Dean's Chair in Design, remarks by faculty representatives from each department, and individual recognition of each graduating student in attendance. Academic regalia is not worn at convocation.
